2010 Association of Alumni Executive Committee Candidates

Stuart L. Richards ’63
Petition Nominated Candidate for Executive Committee

Biography
Stuart has exceptionally close ties with Dartmouth. One son is an alumnus; both his sons went to Tuck. Stu’s wife, Miriam, taught English at the College for 17 years.  For decades they have lived across Ledyard Bridge in Norwich.

At Dartmouth, Stu rowed, played rugby, and began a life-long love of skiing. He was a U.S. Marine, worked at GE and Citibank, and returned to New England as a developer at Killington and Sugarbush.

Stu is Vice President of his son’s company, Global Rescue, which provides worldwide medical and security emergency services. They are heavily involved in Haiti rescue and medical services efforts.

Statement
I adopt the statement of J. Michael Murphy and urge the election of our entire Dartmouth United slate.

The most pressing issue facing alumni is the restoration of equal representation on Dartmouth’s Board between alumni-nominated and Board-nominated Trustees. This should be accomplished through thoughtful dialogue and discussion.

We must honor the agreement between the Board and the alumni. It has not gone out of date. It is still relevant.

Alumni bring a valuable perspective to the process of selecting new Board members. I pledge to work with my fellow Dartmouth United slate members to restore this relationship in a respectful, civil manner.
