Association of Alumni Nominated Candidate for Second Vice President

Biography
Pete has served as president of the Class of 1961, head agent leading up to the class' 40th reunion, and 50th reunion giving cochair this past year. He recently completed a term on the Alumni Council and is a former member of the board of the Dartmouth Club of the Upper Valley (DCUV). While a DCUV board member, Pete took the lead in organizing, as a community service project of the club, Special Olympics winter games at the Dartmouth Skiway. Close to 300 Dartmouth students and alumni volunteer for this event, now in its 10th year. Pete also led the Class Connections program, in which the classes 50 years apart organize events involving members of both classes. Additionally, Pete has assisted in fundraising for and promoting the Class of 1961 Endowment Fund, which supports performing arts at the Hopkins Center. Pete was selected to receive the Dartmouth Alumni Award in 2010. He lives in Hanover with his wife, Ruth, and they have three daughters and four grandchildren.

Statement
I am a strong supporter of Dartmouth and, like many alumni, delighted that Jim Yong Kim was selected as Dartmouth's 17th president. I believe that with his leadership, and a strong board of trustees, Dartmouth will continue to excel and attract the best students and faculty. With the Dartmouth Alumni Council's formation as the representative body of the alumni in 1913, the Association of Alumni's role was limited to conducting the College alumni trustee balloting contests. Since this role is not involved with policy, influencing the administration, or in the selection of alumni trustee candidates, I am not running on any “platform.” I agreed to run for second vice president because I am a loyal supporter of the College and view my volunteer efforts as giving back to Dartmouth.
